Trip To The Zoo
Early sunday last June 15, which was father's day and my partner's birthday too, our family planned to go to the zoo. Luckily and suprisingly my two daughters woke up at around 6:00 am, which was not usually their waking time. As usual, it took me the whole 30 minutes just to prepare our things and dress them. They had their sunday dresses on. I know, I should have opted for their play suits or jumpers but I picked the dresses instead because they don't usually wear them. Afterall, they looked cute in it.
Anyway, we were able to get out of the house at 7:00 am which was record-breaking for us as it usually take us 2 hours to prepare. Maybe me and my partner had mastered the skill of preparing them and ourselves
simultaenously in a short span of time. We've also learned to pack our bags lightly as we will only be commuting to the zoo.
I can't remember the last time I went there. Maybe in my gradeschool days when we had those field trips and the zoo was the favorite place to be. I didn't know that I'd still get excited, after all those years, at the thought of going to the zoo. Maybe because I was feeling the excitement for my daughters too, who will see for the first time in their lives a real "ephant" and "giyaff", as what my 2-year old would always utter whenever she sees them in her tattered animal books. Yes, animals are their favorite subjects. I've even asked one of their godmother to buy an animal book for them, on which she willingly obliges.
Of course, we didn't forget to bring a digicam to document this trip, as we have always done in the past whenever they had their "firsts". My two-year old's reaction to the huge mammal which she call "ephant" was starstruck. If I may call it like that. She didn't utter a word as she usually does whenever she sees one on her books. This time she was quiet and hesitant. Maybe she was thinking, "Whoa! This is a whole lot bigger than what i see on the tv or books!" On the other hand, my one-year old's reaction was just nothing. She was more interested on the plants and flowers on the ground. She even sat on the grass and messed her little hands with mud. I remembered a commercial wherein a girl, after one of their science projects where they were assigned to plant a flower, said to her mom, "I'm Sorry, I got Stinky..I got Dirty..But see I Learned."
Our next stop was the ostrich, my 2-year-old is more relaxed now. Maybe because this animal was just a little taller than her. She even managed to rightly pronounce its' name, "Ostrich". First time! While, my one-year old still aims for the ground to pick up anything scattered on it. Whew! Children- You give them toys of different kinds but they still opt for simple and plain things like plastic cups, dirty leaves and what-nots.
Next stop was the monkey, this time my 1-year old began to take interest, NOT. Only those food scattered outside the monkey's cage. Her sister even warned her not to put her hands on the cage or the monkey will bite her. Sweet sister ei?
The last stop was the horse. This time I was really surprised because my eldest, who at first was a little reluctant to come closer to the animals, was actually ready to ride the horse. At the first sight of the horse, she even sang first few lines of the song Old Mcdonald, which was "Ei-Yah-Ei-Yah-Yo." Hihi! Anyway, there was a separate mini zoo there where you could actually touch the animals and cuddle them. Hmmm! Maybe when they are little older, I could bring them again there.
Our zoo trip ended with a little boat ride, on which I think the small ones enjoyed the most and me too. They were delighted to see the swans and ducks swimming around in the pond.
Our zoo trip was a little tiring but it was all worth it seeing our little tots enjoyed and had a great time. Definitely, we will be back for the second time around. Their grandmother after seeing the pictures was also delighted. She even joked that maybe my little one will grow up to become a botanist since she was really interested on plants and my eldest will become a zoologist. No problem with that. It's ok for me that they get stinky or dirty as long as they learned.
