Toddler Birthday Party Ideas

My eldest’s birthday party is fast-approaching. Actually, it’s still 3 months away. But it is always smart to plan ahead of time, especially if you’re working full-time. That’s why I thought of some tips on how to organize a party for the working mom:

GUEST LIST: This will help you decide what budget you are going to allot for the birthday party. Always allot 1-2 adults per kids. But it’s better if you will put an R.S.V.P. to your invitation cards. RSVP means Respondez S'il Vous Plas, which is French for Please Respond. This means the host would like a response as to whether you will be attending or not. This is important when planning parties to have seating and food for the correct number of people.

VENUE: You should decide if you’re going to do it at home or outside. Doing it at home is more economical but it’s a lot of work. Believe me! But if you got tons of people to help you, that won’t be a problem at all. However, if you got some money to pay for an organizer, some all-time favourite kiddie fast-food joints have kiddie packages to choose from. This includes everything from the invitation to the entertainment and even party hats even food packages, it’s only up to you to decide which package will fit your budget and accommodate your guests.

DATE AND TIME: Toddler’s birthday party should not take long. It should last for 2 hours at least because they’ll grow bored and tired right away. Also,it’s always an issue if the birthday of the celebrant will fall on a busy day or a free day. Because if it’s a busy day, no one is going to be available for the party. If it’s a free day, you bet, everybody will be attending. But it’s always good to celebrate the birthday of your child on the day she was actually born. But if you’re not superstitious or anything and you would like everybody to be present on that day to celebrate your child’s day, it’s ok to celebrate it on a free day closer to that date.

ENTERTAINMENT: Having a theme for the party, especially involving your child’s favourite cartoon character will be a hit for toddlers. When my youngest daughter had her birthday, we prepared a DORA’s theme party for her since Dora is her favourite cartoon character. Puppet shows, story-telling and bubble shows are a hit for toddlers. They are just too young for too complicated magic shows and I’ve found that most of them are scared with clowns. It’s always good to invest on this part because this is the life of the party. If you’re not too keen on doing some magic tricks and hosting to entertain your guest and besides it’s stressful also, just give it to others who have the talent to do so. I’ve tried doing this part because of some budget constraints but it didn’t work out the way I wanted it.

FOOD: There are a lot of easy-to-prepare recipes that kids will love. Like bagels, cookies, marshmallows and chicken lollipops. Cook up some meals for adults also. Or if you got some budget for it and you don’t want to stress yourself too much, it’s always easy to pay for a caterer.

GIVEAWAYS: For kids, they will enjoy more on loot bags full of goodies and small toys. Just be careful not to put some small parts or toys for them or they will get choked. For adults, prepare some souvenirs that won’t take up dusts on cabinets. However, digital photoframes and keychains are the in-thing to day. But it’s really more practical to give useful keepsakes like keychains, ballpens, letter-openers and paper-weights.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS: Always be ready with your cameras and videos to capture the moment. Assign someone in your family to take charge of capturing every moment. See my blog for it to get an idea.

DON’T FORGET THE CELEBRANT. Buy a dress for her. Not necessarily a red dress but something that will set her apart from the others. It should also be comfortable so that she could still play in it. Always make sure that she will have a great time on her day. Remember to enjoy every bit and every detail of preparing for your child’s birthday. 
