Sleeping Hobbits
Our kid’s habits are as unpredictable as weather. It’s obvious because you can already count the amount of eye bags that I have. Sometimes they have shorter nap time and on others they could sleep for days. Only I’m exaggerating a bit. We’ve tried all of the techniques like tuning in to melodic sounds in the radio. We see to it that we give them a relaxing sponge bath. Another thing, we massage them and put calming jasmine lotion to ease their senses. At other times, we set the mood light. My eldest is the most hyper and most energetic. Sometimes my husband tries to put my eldest daughter to sleep by reading to her favourite books. But this doesn't seem to work now with her. Whew!
I’ve encountered a technique in the magazine to let them cry their heart out until they became sleepy after that. But that seems torture because my eldest coughs and pukes whenever she cries a lot, not to mention having cold after minutes of crying. Playing to make them tired is unusual because of all that energy to put them to sleep. Especially with our daughters for they have close year gaps, a 1-year and a 2 ½ -year old sisters is a strategic planning to deal with everyday routines. Example, my eldest will not sleep if her baby sister is still playing and vice versa. And if one of them woke up earlier than the other, she’ll make sure that she will do things to wake the other sister. And it’s playing time again!
My mother told me that when I was a child she makes it a point that I follow a sleeping schedule. In the afternoon, she makes sure that we get enough afternoon nap. About 1-3 hours. Just enough so as not to keep us awake all through the night. This is the only technique I have yet to enforce in our hobbits' sleeping frenzy. I'm pretty sure that eventually they'll get used to this routine - that and also the one's I've previously mentioned. Whew! Wish me luck!
