Dads, the New Moms
It’s not a trend, it’s a shared responsibility. Starting from the time my wife conceived; I became my wife's PA. Go there, get me one of this, fly to Mars and get me a blue Marsian! And servant-dad obliged immediately because he doesn't want to upset mom; it’s for the baby’s sake. Getting blue Alien?! And the story continues after my firstborn enters the world. Seeing them both okay is never better than anything I can wish for in this world. And my duty starts. My wife being fragile after delivering, I initialized the baby's care. After we arrived at home, my baby slept on my chest and I on the sofa. And that started my baby to be comfortable sleeping like that. The tough part is our baby started drinking on feeding bottles because my wife said she can't produce milk. But I can! Mixing formula and monitoring its expiration is a lab work.
Now, are you thinking about diapers? I'm psychic. After two babies and a poopload of poops, I became a diaper guru. I know now what's what in diaper fashion. Like asking babies, "Who are you wearing?" "I’m wearing Huggies from the 2008 collection." There are diapers for summer or hot days, the ones that don’t give baby rashes (if it makes your baby’s bottom sweat.) There’s for heavy duty dry or overnight diapers. At the end of the day it’s my babies' smiles that eases all my fatigues away.
From what I see, the number of men interested in co-parenting is higher than it’s ever been,” says Parents advisor Kyle Pruett, M.D., clinical professor of child psychiatry at Yale University. In his child-development courses, he says, young men talk about wanting to be more hands-on with their children. “They’re not comfortable having so few memories of their dads being involved in their lives. They plan to do things differently.” (The New Face of Fatherhood, Parents Magazine)
